Little Shop of Horrors has officially closed at the Guthrie. I had a blast working with this team at the Guthrie Theater. I was excited to go on six times during the run in all of the tracks I covered (Ronnette, Puppeteer, and Female Ensemble)

I am excited to announce I have been cast as an understudy in Little Shop of Horrors at the Guthrie Theater! I am covering Ronnette, Puppeteer, and the Female Ensemble. Today's sitzprobe was incredible and we are so excited to open this one! Snag your tickets! "Making their TTT debut, Marisa Tejeda is just the perfect young Emilia, so natural and empathetic as we follow Emila through the death of her father at a young age, being sent to live with a noble woman and learn the ways of the court, becoming mistress to a rich older man who supports her writing, and eventually marrying a cousin." -Cherry and Spoon
full review here "Emilia" doubles as a showcase of new talent, as well. Tejeda impresses as Emilia, with a flawless command of her lines and the young poet's irrepressible soul." Star Tribune full review here "Marisa Tejeda brings us the ebullient, open-hearted Emilia of her childhood through young adult years, accruing wisdom before our eyes amid simmering frustration. - Pioneer Press full review here
I am excited to announce that I have been cast as Georgiana Darcy in the rolling world premiere of Georgianna & Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley at the Jungle Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am overjoyed to be making my debut at the Jungle, and to be back in my hometown for the holidays working with this fabulous team!
I am so excited to announce my contract has been extended at American Players Theatre. I will now be covering the roles of Huldey, Agatha, and Marjory in The Moors by Jen Silverman. I absolutely love this show and working on it has always been a dream. I am so excited that I will now be at APT through the end of the 2022 season on an absolute dreamy piece of theatre.
I am excited to announce that I am headed to American Players Theater as an external understudy for the rest of the run of their beautiful show, The River Bride. I will be understudying Helena and Sra. Costa. My artistic father and grad school professor, Ted Swetz, was an original company member in 1980 so I am excited to join the cast and crew in Spring Green in this full circle moment.
The reviews are in for The Old Man and the Old Moon and critics and audiences are loving it!
Highlights from The Pitch Magazine's Review: "Liz Chidester, Anand Nagraj, Ashley Pankow, Cody Proctor, Edward Rosini, Jake Saleh, and Marisa B. Tejeda combine to deliver perhaps the greatest collaborative cast I’ve ever seen on stage, in terms of sheer, sheer, talent. The combination of this creative team with this neigh unholy level of skill on display from a cast—look, just put these same people in every show that you can, and The Pitch will show up. We would see this team do Suessical. Yes. That’s how much we believe in them. [Please never hold us to this.]" Highlights from KC Studio Review: "While Nagraj is fantastic as the titular Old Man, the real star of this show is the entire ensemble. The small cast of actors (Liz Chidester, Ashley Pankow, Cody Proctor, Edward Rosini, Jake Saleh, Marisa B. Tejeda) plays off each other with captivating chemistry, moving with graceful synergy between multiple characters, as well as multiple instruments, as the ensemble also serves as the on-stage band." I am so proud of the cast and crew of this beautiful show, and we're so excited to share this story with the Kansas City community. Below is a sneak preview trailer of our show!
"Marisa B. Tejeda delivers a stand-out performance as Nadja, capturing the creeping terror of living “from siren to siren” during the four-year siege of Sarajevo. Tejeda’s performance is urgent and incisive; their gaze lingers just slightly on the audience after each passage, as if daring us to look away." - KC Studio Magazine
This June, I will join a group of young creator/actors/artists at LAByrinth Theatre as part of their Summer Intensive Ensemble. I will be working on a series of workshops and new play development led by LAByrinth Theater Company Members and guest artists. The Intensive Ensemble allows emerging artists to push their boundaries, create their own work, be part of a collaborative, vital new ensemble. Previous guest artists and speakers inclued Stephen McKinley Henderson, Bobby Cannavale, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Daphne Rubin-Vega, John Ortiz, David Zayas, and more. I've been accepted into The Black Arts Institute Summer Program at Stella Adler and The Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn. Led by a world-class faculty including Phylicia Rashad, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Michele Shay and Sonia Sanchez. I am so excited to connect with other artists of color and learn from this incomparable faculty. I am so excited to expand my actor tool box and live in the city that never sleeps!
It has been a dream to make my Unicorn Theatre debut as Emmy in A Doll's House Part II. Grateful for an incredible cast and crew, and for the gracious audiences we've had during this run! "Emmy comes to life with a strong portrayal by Marisa B. Tejeda, a UMKC MFA student making her Unicorn Theatre debut. In her scene with Haliburton, Tejeda gives notice to Kansas City to watch her expand her resume–quickly." - KC Applauds "Anne Marie at one point in the play arranges a meeting between Nora and her daughter Emmy, played impressively by Marisa B. Tejeda. As performed by Tejeda, Emmy’s initially endearing demeanor gradually gives away to calculating assessments of the past, present and future. This is a performance of subtle and smooth transitions." - KC Studio "Emmy is marvelously played by Marisa B. Tejeda. She is a 2nd-year student of the MFA Acting Program at UMKC Conservatory." - Broadway World Review We had so much fun on our 18 day tour! From Louisville to Chicago to Minneapolis to Oklahoma City to Austin and back home to Kansas city. From basements to clubs to living rooms to packed venues. We were able to share music and community with so many friends, old and new. We played with some of our favorite bands, played two sold out shows, and got to eat deep dish in Chicago. It was an incredible experience, and we're grateful for all the support. Here are some compilations of our favorite moments on the road:
